About

Canyons Lodge sits in Kanab, about 80 miles from the North Rim, and it's earned a loyal following — a 4.6 rating across 310 reviews, with guests coming back for a third stay and calling out the staff by name. Rooms lean rustic-chic: clean, modern, comfortable beds, and reliably better than the chain hotels nearby. A free breakfast is served daily, and the property has several cozy outdoor seating areas plus a seasonal outdoor pool for cooling off after a day on the road. Live music rounds out the evenings in season.

Why it works as a base

Kanab's central position makes Canyons Lodge a practical launch point for the North Rim as well as Zion, Bryce, and even the South Rim — reviewers specifically flag it as an ideal spot for hitting multiple parks on one trip. It's also walkable to a good stretch of Kanab restaurants. One thing to know before booking: several reviewers mention thin walls and floors, so light sleepers on upper floors may hear neighbors' TVs or kids at bedtime.

  • Rating: 4.6 (310 reviews)
  • Amenities: free daily breakfast, seasonal outdoor pool, outdoor seating areas, pet accommodations
  • Distance to North Rim: roughly 80 miles

I strongly recommend against staying at this hotel. The photos do not reflect reality: the rooms are nicely decorated and pleasant, but the pictures give the impression of a quiet and secluded property, while in reality the rooms face the main road. The traffic noise is constant and the air conditioning is also very loud. In addition, since the rooms are arranged on two floors, you can clearly hear every movement from the guests upstairs. The mattresses were also quite uncomfortable. The biggest disappointment was breakfast. It is included, but there is absolutely no choice: for all three days we were served exactly the same tray, consisting of an egg prepared with oil and cheese, yogurt with blueberries, and a muffin. Since it was not to our liking, we politely asked the manager if we could have something simple, such as scrambled eggs or a fried egg, toast, jam or cream cheese, and some milk. The answer was no: this was the breakfast they provided and it could not be changed. Even for the children, it was not possible to have a glass of milk. We therefore asked to cancel the third day of our reservation. We were told that this was possible, but without any refund. It is a shame because the rooms are beautiful, but the noise, uncomfortable beds, and above all the complete lack of flexibility from the management made our experience very disappointing. We would not return and cannot recommend this hotel.

The rooms are indeed small, but they were sufficient for us. The accommodation and grounds are wonderful. Travis does a fantastic job and is clearly passionate about what he does. We felt very comfortable.

On our way to the parks, we spent a fabulous night at Canyons Lodge. We found the property perfectly organized, with a small but beautifully furnished room, very tastefully decorated, and spotlessly clean. Trevis warmly welcomed us at reception, offering us valuable suggestions for dinner, and then personally escorted us to our room, where we also found a welcome note. Breakfast, served in the adjacent property, was also excellent. What can I say? It's definitely a property to recommend without hesitation; we'll gladly return, perhaps even more so if we're ever in the area.
