About

Inside the Western-style Grand Hotel, Canyon Star Steakhouse & Saloon is a roomy, timber-and-stone dining room turning out steaks and Southern-leaning plates for travelers coming off a day on the rim. Reviewers keep circling back to the same standouts: a well-cooked ribeye or New York strip, crispy tempura shrimp, and a smoky poblano cheddar soup.

What to expect

The menu runs hearty and comfort-forward — reviewers mention the chili, onion rings, a chicken sandwich, Southwest egg rolls, and rainbow trout alongside the steaks, with tres leches cake and a lava cake for dessert. The breakfast buffet gets its own praise for being ample enough to fuel an early start into the park. Several recent reviews single out attentive, friendly servers by name, including one who offered tips for a Sedona side trip.

Good to know

  • Hours: breakfast 7-10 AM, dinner 4-9 PM daily
  • Price range: moderate ($$)
  • Rating: 3.4 stars from 744 Google reviews, though the most recent reviews run consistently higher
  • Also on site: an adjoining saloon bar for drinks and bar food

Dining choices near the South Rim entrance are limited, which makes this steady, well-reviewed kitchen inside the Grand Hotel an easy call for a sit-down dinner before or after a day at the canyon.

Nice little restaurant within walking distance from the room. The service was interesting as we were asked to come back 30 minutes later when we had no reservations, keep in mind the entire restaurant was empty. Food was pretty good, service staff was obviously new but friendly. For the price and quality I am not sure there are many options in this area. Certainly pricey but not too bad overall. Next time I'll try another restaurant in the area and save some money.

For starters, we ordered nachos, a filet mignon for two, and I had an IPA beer. The filet mignon, about the size of a fist, was served medium-rare and cooked perfectly. The restaurant's atmosphere and design are excellent. We couldn't finish the nachos and had them packed up for us. The total bill, including tip, was $170, which is quite reasonable compared to Vegas prices. The staff were friendly and the food came quickly.
